You’re not allowed to use the word gypsy, are you?
Olga: Hey, Dan, how come you use the word “gypsy” when you’re talking about yourself? I got told you should never use that word, and that Roma people don’t like it. And yet you always belt it out at the top of your voice.
Daniel: Belt it out …? And why shouldn’t I say gypsy, when that’s what I am?
Olga: I don’t know why it’s meant to be offensive and that. And I don’t know where I was when I got told it was insulting. But I’m still throw by you yelling about it.
Daniel: What does it matter to you? Don’t worry about it. I pretty much like myself, so it doesn’t bother me. But when, say, the neighbour says it, that’s when I see red.
Olga: Why?
Daniel: If you could hear the tone of voice he uses, you’d soon know.
Olga: You mean he says it like it means you’re inferior?
Daniel: Exactly.
Olga: Aha.
