What does citizenship mean? Patriotism, and loyalty to the country. I associate the term citizenship with the word “pride” and also with the soldiers standing in front of the Prague Castle.
For me personally, citizenship has never been important. I associate citizenship with the Czech Republic, where I was born, so it's something I was given when I was born. I think it has more to do with the State.
What does it mean to be a good citizen? To represent one's country or village or town well. In my opinion, citizenship is only good for politicians travelling abroad. A good citizen must abide by the Constitution of the country, at least that's what they drilled into our heads in civics at school. And now my obligation is to pay taxes. That's about all I have to do for the State. Anyway, I feel like a citizen of the Czech Republic... or rather, I feel like a citizen of the Czechoslovak Republic. In fact, citizenship only brings all sorts of limitations. The government continuously tightens our belts, imposing more and more taxes.
All working people are happy when they come home from work. They have no time and are in no mood to think about bullshit. Only people who have nothing else to do invent nonsense. I'm sure that if I had the opportunity to choose different citizenship, I would surely find a country where I could live better, where the laws for people are better. | |
