See who else is hereIt's hard to find a job

Olga: You know what I’d really like? For mum to finally land herself a decent job.

Daniel: Yeah, I reckon my mum would like to find work as well, but it isn’t that simple. Before she was at home with my little sisters, she spent six month looking and nobody wanted her.

Suong: My mum works for my dad, but otherwise I reckon she’d have a problem. Czechs think that you have to speak amazing Czech to be able to do anything at all.

Abu Jamal: I reckon it’s not only about the language. Loads of people stare at me because I’m black. And black means lazy!

Olga: …Hmm, it’s the same in our family. Dad’s a university graduate and can’t find work because he’s from the Ukraine. And after all, Ukrainians belong on the construction site!

Pavla: Don’t know what you’re all moaning about! My mum’s Czech and she gets paid peanuts for what she does!

Jožo: Be grateful she’s got work at all. In Slovakia there’s no way you’ll find work, unless it’s in Bratislava!

Magda: You’re right, things in the Czech Republic are still better than they are in Slovakia, even though it’s no barrel of laughs here! But I read somewhere recently that, the more educated a person is, the easier it is for them to find work – there’s got to be some truth in that, surely?

Olga: Sorry, can’t help it, I just have to laugh! I’d love to have your ideals!

Pavla: But…where there’s a will there’s a way!
